February, 2011- From the Pastor

“God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Galatians 6:14

The month of February brings the holiday dedicated to expressing our
feelings to those we love. As with every other holiday in our time,
Valentine’s Day has been commercialized to the max. Nevertheless love is
still the most powerful force a person can experience.
A wise philosopher once said: “Desire is the essence of man”. While
the Bible declares that the real essence of man is spirit, to be truly
loved, and to love truly, is the greatest function and experience of the
human spirit; and its deepest desire.
Our Creator-God, Who is Love, designed us so. He alone, by His
Spirit in us, is the Source of our power and ability to love in truth. Love
is no better than the one doing the loving. God’s love is perfect because
God is perfect. His love “never runs out”.
I Corinthians 13:8
Human love is always tainted by a measure of human selfishness. It
not only often fails, but may turn to hate. (Just visit some divorce
courts.)
But when the truth of God’s Word is made alive in our hearts by the
power of the Holy Spirit, and we behold the greatest expression of love in
time and eternity; the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are drawn to
repent and be cleansed from our sin, which defilies human love.
“We love because He first loved us”. I John 4:19
We can then be empowered to love with God’s holy, everlasting love;
“shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit”. Romans 5:5
The supreme desire of every twice-born follower of Christ should be,
at whatever the cost, to “Make loving with God’s kind of love your greatest
quest”.
I Corinthians 14:1
